Kiwanis is an organization of people who want to improve the communities in which they live and work.  Membership in a Kiwanis club can provide you with an avenue to become involved in your community and to participate with business and community leaders.  Kiwanis lends the energy of a local volunteer organization to accomplish worthwhile service endeavors of your choosing.

What does the name "Kiwanis" mean?
The name "Kiwanis" was coined from an expression in an American Indian language of the Detroit area, Nunc Kee-wanis, which means, "we trade" or "we have a good time."

How much community service is done by Kiwanis clubs around the world?
In one year, Kiwanis clubs sponsored 147,000 service projects. To do so, Kiwanians raised and spent nearly $100 million and contributed 6.2 million hours of volunteer time.

Kiwanis is for anyone who wants to assist in improving the lives of others in his/her community.  The membership of a Kiwanis club is representative of a broad spectrum of the community it serves and is often made up of business people, community leaders, and retirees alike.  Kiwanis membership has something to offer everyone.  Likewise, anyone interested in community service has something to offer Kiwanis.

Kiwanis clubs accomplish their goals through sponsorship of a wide range of projects.  Each club selects its projects depending upon the particular needs of their individual community.  While projects vary from one club to another, representative projects/recipients of support include many of like those shown on our home page.
